Sausage Gnocchi

Delicious and comforting Sausage Gnocchi combines tender potato gnocchi with savory Italian sausage in a flavorful tomato sauce, perfect for a hearty weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb potato gnocchi
  • 12 oz Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gnocchi and cook until they float to the surface, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in dried oregano and red pepper flakes if using. Simmer the sauce for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Stir in the heavy cream and bring the sauce back to a gentle simmer. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet and gently toss to coat them evenly with the sauce.
  7. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the dish and garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, try adding sautéed mushrooms or spinach to the sauce. Serve with a crisp green salad and crusty bread.
