Homemade Bread

This homemade bread is soft, flavorful, and perfect for any meal. Easy to prepare and bake, it brings the comforting aroma of fresh bread straight to your kitchen.

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
  3. Make a well in the flour mixture and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
  4. Mix until the dough begins to come together, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes until the dough has risen above the pan edges.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
  10. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

For a crispier crust, place a pan of water in the oven while baking to create steam. Delicious served warm with butter or as sandwich bread.
