  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined; do not overmix.
  4. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
  5. Pour 1/4 cup of batter for each pancake onto the skillet; cook until bubbles form on the surface, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Flip the pancakes and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve warm with maple syrup, honey, or your favorite toppings.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding chopped toasted nuts or a dollop of spiced whipped cream on top.
